Reimagine your way of life with the Trails at Kiplinger Conservancy, where accessible pathways meet adventure. With countless opportunities to explore the outdoors, including the official home of Martin County’s first-ever gopher tortoise sanctuary, you can easily access all the parks and trails Newfield offers from the extensive trail system woven throughout our community and easily accessed from interconnected sidewalks via trailheads. Whether you prefer a leisurely family stroll or a horseback-riding adventure, enjoy the miles of preserved wetlands and trails that invite all who wander to thrive.
As Martin County’s first-ever gopher tortoise preserve, Newfield serves as a haven for this threatened population. Gopher tortoises must be relocated to a safe environment when construction impacts their habitat. Mattamy Homes set a goal to minimize offsite relocation of gopher tortoises, which led us to create a 30-acre recipient site at Newfield.
Connected to the greater Kiplinger trail system are two proposed overlooks perfect for viewing the local habitat. The North Wetland Overlook is a two-story tower with bench seating perfect for viewing the wetlands. If you head south on the trail system you’ll land at the South Wetland Overlook, a one-story shaded structure with ample bench seating.
Throughout our community, you’ll find pine forests, wetlands, saw palmetto, and freshwater marsh wetlands which are fundamental habitats for native species to survive.
Join us every Saturday morning for a trail walk throughout the Kiplinger Conservancy – a perfect opportunity to meet new friends and neighbors. We are also proud to offer regular educational and civic programs. Keep up-to-date with the latest goings-ons at our Events page.
