Mattamy Homes Breaks Ground on Second Trailhead at Newfield In Palm City
Mattamy Homes, the largest privately-owned homebuilder in North America, broke ground today on a second trailhead in Newfield, its master-planned community in Martin County. The trailhead will be part of Newfield’s KC Trails, a vast network of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding located within the 450-acre, wildlife-rich Kiplinger Conservancy.
The second trailhead will be more centrally located to Rosette Park, Newfield’s first neighborhood, providing the community’s earliest homebuyers with convenient access to KC Trails. It will include additional parking – as well as parking for equine trailers – to meet the high demand.
The trailhead will also feature picnic space and a scenic overlook, inviting residents and the community to spend more leisurely time outdoors surrounded by native flora and fauna.
“We’re thrilled to break ground on the second trailhead at Newfield. KC Trails has quickly become a retreat for those in the community seeking to connect with nature; we’ve even launched a ‘Newfield Trailblazers’ hiking group,” said Dan Grosswald, Mattamy Homes’ southeast Florida division president. “At any time, visitors of KC Trails can catch deer and other wildlife roaming the protected land. We look forward to expanding the trails and adding more scenic overlooks, benches, and boardwalks for peak enjoyment.”
Newfield was conceived and introduced by economic journalist Knight Kiplinger, whose family owned the vast expanse of land for more than four decades. Mattamy Homes has stayed true to Kiplinger’s vision for Newfield, which has received widespread public support for its permanent protection of 70 percent of the total 3,400-acre property, including pasture, wetlands, and lakes.
In addition to KC Trails and the Kiplinger Conservancy, which will soon be home to Martin County’s first-ever gopher tortoise preserve, Newfield has engaged its residents and the community through Newfield Farm, a dynamic community resource for farm-based experiences, educational programs, communal gardens and a multitude of events, including The Market at Newfield Farm. Once complete, Newfield Farm will span more than 100 acres and incorporate sustainable farming practices to produce year-round access to fresh, nutrient-dense foods.
Later this month, The Harvest House community supported agriculture building will open to the public. Located at Newfield Farm, this innovative space will provide residents and visitors with access to fresh, locally sourced produce and products from Newfield Farm and surrounding artisans.
Additionally, the 4,000-square-foot Newfield Barn is set to open next month as a multifaceted operation featuring educational programming, cooking classes, demonstrations, and tastings, as well as a retail store and product stand.
Once complete, Newfield will bring 4,000 new homes to Martin County. Residents across its numerous villages will enjoy walkable access to Newfield’s town center, Main Street, as well as public parks, town greens, village squares, and recreational areas.
