Harvesting New Energy: Matt Palermo Joins the Newfield Farm Team
Since the start of Newfield Farm, we’ve watched our agricultural space blossom into a meaningful gathering place for neighbors to connect, shop local, and experience life rooted in nature. The farm has quickly become the heart of the community. And now, we’re entering an exciting new chapter.
We’re thrilled to welcome Matt Palermo as the new Farm Director at Newfield. A former professional touring musician turned passionate grower, Matt brings with him a deep appreciation for the land and over a decade of experience in sustainable agriculture. His journey into farming was sparked by a curiosity about food, health and the soil beneath our feet.
Originally from Houston, Matt began volunteering at an organic farm in California while still working in music. What started as a side hobby quickly turned into a calling. He spent 10 years learning the ropes of organic food production, including five years running his own five-acre farm selling directly to his local community. Most recently, he managed a working farm in Houston through Agmenity, where he embraced the mission of making high-quality, chemical-free produce accessible and community-driven.
Matt’s philosophy is rooted in one key belief: when we reconnect with the land, we nourish more than our bodies and grow healthier communities. His passion for education and community engagement is a natural fit for Newfield’s long-term vision because he sees the farm as a space for shared experiences, storytelling and environmental stewardship.
Matt’s vision is clear: cultivate healthy soil, grow nutrient-dense produce, and create a space where people of all ages feel welcome to learn, connect and thrive. With Matt now in place, Agmenity and Newfield Farm are poised to bring even more energy to our series of educational workshops, volunteer opportunities and hands-on classes. The Market at Newfield Farm will remain a key touchpoint for residents and visitors, offering more of what you love—fresh, local, sustainable food that feeds the mind, body, and spirit.
We can’t wait to see what this next season brings with Matt at the helm. If you see him out on the trails or tending to the fields, be sure to say hello—he’s already planting big ideas for the future of Newfield Farm.
Until next time, happy growing!
