KC Trails Debut at Newfield, Offering Outdoor-Centered Wellness and Immersive Nature Experiences
It’s time to get outdoors, Martin County! KC Trails – a vast network of trails for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding and nature spotting– has officially opened at Newfield.
Whether you’re a nature enthusiast or are just looking for something fun to do with your family on the weekend, we invite you to spend some time at our trails—get in some exercise during our Saturday Strolls or simply enjoy moments of peace, wonder, and environmental exploration.
Originally conceived by our partner and friend, economic journalist Knight Kiplinger – whose family previously owned the land that is now Newfield for over four decades – KC Trails is both a haven for wildlife and an enriching gift to the community. KC Trails is an integral part of the larger Kiplinger Conservancy.
The Kiplinger Conservancy totals more than 2,000 acres, which includes hundreds of acres of upland preserve with dense forests of slash pines, cabbage palms and saw palmettos in their natural state, as well as picturesque wetlands which are home to various wading birds and other wildlife.
KC Trails honors Newfield’s core pillars of conservation, sustainability and wellness, protecting local flora and fauna while encouraging visitors to reap the numerous physical, mental and emotional health benefits of being outdoors. Spending time out in nature and having regular access to green spaces has been shown to decrease anxiety and depression, improve focus and quality of sleep, and boost creativity and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, KC Trails allows visitors to engage in physical exercise while immersed in nature – a win-win for anyone seeking to maintain a healthy lifestyle or improve their physical wellness and mental health (source: UC Davis Health).
Knight’s goal for Kiplinger Conservancy was to foster a respect and appreciation for nature at all ages – and that’s our goal, too. That said, the trails offer something to guests of all ages and are family- and school-friendly. Children can explore easy-to-navigate trails and learn about the local ecosystem – they’ll even have the unique opportunity to spot wildlife, such as eagles and deer, basking in their natural habitat! Additionally, visitors can enjoy picnics at the trail’s scenic overlooks or relax on benches along the boardwalks. This destination provides a perfect blend of adventure, education and serenity in a safe environment, ensuring a memorable learning experience for everyone.
Newfield has earned widespread recognition for its commitment to the environment, permanently preserving 70% of the 3,400-acre property, which includes pastures, wetlands, forests, and lakes. As the Kiplinger Conservancy continues to grow, it’s set to become a cherished wonder for outdoor enthusiasts and wildlife lovers alike. Whether you’re observing native species, exercising, or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings with loved ones and neighbors, KC Trails offers a unique opportunity to engage with community and experience nature in its purest form, right in the heart of Martin County.
