Monthly “Newfield Farm Series” Fosters Community Engagement through Interactive and Educational Events

Aligning with Newfield’s vision for community connection and nature-oriented experiences, Mattamy Homes has launched a monthly “Newfield Farm Series,” inviting the community to enjoy a weekly lineup of events designed to foster engagement while promoting eco-friendly practices and providing valuable learning experiences.

Every month features a variety of interactive events, including farm tours, where visitors can learn about sustainable farming practices, as well as volunteering opportunities for those eager to offer hands-on help. Additionally, Newfield Farm Manager and Lead Farm Educator Andrew Gerren – along with his team – will host “Coffee with a Farmer” dates and educational classes covering topics like organic farming and local food systems while highlighting The Market at Newfield Farm.

The Newfield Farm series kicked off in January with several interactive events, including a Gardening 101 class led by Gerren as part of the “Simply Rooted” Farm Education Series. Participants enjoyed an informative, hands-on session covering gardening basics and the fundamentals of starting a winter garden, from vegetable and site selection to soil preparation, fertilization, irrigation, pest management and more. They even got their hands dirty planting lettuce and chives in the Newfield Garden!

Of note, participants will get a chance to view the hives up close, with a protective veil provided; however, all must wear long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toed shoes. The class begins at 10 a.m. and will hold a maximum of 15 participants.
