harvesting success: farmer andrew joins the newfield family
Since our First Planting event last year in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Martin County, Newfield Farm has evolved into a destination where the community gathers, enjoys nature, and partakes in events like The Market. However, we recognized a crucial missing piece in our puzzle. As stewards of the farm, we realized the importance of nurturing and caring for it. Hence, we are excited to welcome Andrew Gerren to our team as our Lead Farm Educator and Farm Manager.
Community Farmers are a unique type of farmer. Their passions are in not only growing delicious, sustainable food but also in creating a vibrant, inclusive, connected community where agriculture serves as the catalyst for social interaction, environmental stewardship, and collective well-being. Integrating the Farm Community into a “Farm-ily” through shared agricultural experiences may not be number one on the to-do list of every farmer you know, but it is for Farmer Andrew here at Newfield Farm. With his expertise, we are confident Andrew will cultivate our Newfield Farm and enhance our connection to the local community.
Andrew joins us with 14 years of experience in nurturing organic-sustainable agriculture and permaculture design, especially in tropical regions. His journey has taken him from the vibrant landscapes of Hawaii to the unique communities of Jamaica, where he honed his skills in sustainable farming and deepened his connection to nature. And now, he’s bringing that knowledge and passion to Newfield Farm.
What makes Andrew such a perfect fit? Aside from his impressive skills, he is committed to empowering people to build relationships with nature, which aligns perfectly with our vision for Newfield.
But Andrew isn’t just here to manage the farm; he’s here to inspire us all to dig a little deeper into our relationship with the land and explore the beauties within it. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a total newbie, he’s got so much to share. We are eager to have people of all ages familiarize themselves with Newfield Farm and experience all it has to offer.
And let’s not forget about The Market at Newfield Farm, which debuted last year! With Andrew at the helm, we can expect even more fresh, nutrient-dense goodies straight from our fields to your table.
So, as we gear up for another season of growth and community here at Newfield Farm, let’s give a warm welcome to Farmer Andrew Gerren. With his guidance, Newfield Farm will continue to blossom into a shining example of sustainability for years to come.
Until next time, happy planting!
