Newfield Sets a New Standard of Living in Martin County

While envisioning the concept of Newfield – an innovative community rooted in connectivity, sustainability, and conservation – our friend and economic journalist Knight Kiplinger knew he struck gold along Florida’s Treasure Coast. For over four decades, his family owned a 3,400-acre parcel of land in Martin County – a place known for its family-friendly reputation, tropical climate, lush flora, rich wildlife, and proximity to world-famous beaches.

It was the perfect opportunity to bring his vision for Newfield to life.

After selecting Mattamy to be Newfield’s master developer, Kiplinger joined us to announce the community in 2022. Since that proclamation, Newfield has earned widespread public support for its permanent protection of 70% of the total property in Palm City, which includes pasture, wetlands, and lakes. Despite being Martin County’s largest mixed-use property in over 40 years, Newfield represents a groundbreaking approach to community development that prioritizes sustainability and environmental conservation – all part of Kiplinger’s vision, which we’re proud to oversee.

A unique place to live, work and play, Newfield is a one-of-its-kind master-planned community in the region, blending the activity and walkability of a small city with the warmth and connectivity of suburbia – all situated within an expanse of preserved land that houses wildlife and offers locals immersive, nature-oriented experiences at Newfield Farm and KC Trails.

For starters, there’s Newfield Farm, which will span more than 100 acres and incorporate sustainable farming practices to produce year-round access to fresh, nutrient-dense foods. Newfield Farm will serve as a dynamic community resource for farm-based experiences, educational programs, communal gardens, and a multitude of events, including The Market at Newfield Farm, which we debuted in 2023. The enriching community event takes place during high season and showcases fresh produce, artisanal goods and wellness-focused events from dozens of local vendors.

Agmenity, Newfield’s supervising farm management company, specializes in designing and operating community-based agricultural amenities to facilitate the growth of holistic, healthy relationships between people, place and food. Future Newfield residents and the broader public will be able to select from vegetables, herbs, flowers and more grown at Newfield Farm through its on-site farm stand, regular green market, and other avenues. This year, the 4,000-square-foot Newfield Barn is set to open as a multifaceted operation featuring educational programming, cooking classes, demonstrations and tastings, as well as a retail store and product stand.

Last year, we unveiled the initial phase of KC Trails – a vast network of trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding – which includes about 450, wildlife-rich acres designated as the Kipling Conservancy. Once complete, the trails will also include scenic overlooks, benches and boardwalks.

The Kiplinger Conservancy will also serve as a haven for the threatened Gopher Tortoise population. Gopher tortoises must be relocated by developers to a safe environment when construction impacts their habitat. When we realized there were no suitable options nearby, we saw an opportunity within Newfield and set out to create a 30-acre recipient site with a maximum capacity of 60 tortoises. We’re proud to say Newfield will soon be Martin County’s first-ever gopher tortoise preserve.

Though surrounded by flora and fauna, Newfield will offer all the exciting and convenient elements of a tight-knit town. Currently underway, Phase 1 of Newfield includes the community’s first village, which will serve as the town center and include approximately 1,250 residential units, along with retail, restaurants, small-scale offices, recreational amenities, and ten miles of trails. Best of all, Newfield is designed to promote walkability and community connection, giving it an intimate village feel while encouraging physical activity. Residents will be able to stroll from their homes to Village Center and more in minutes!

Once complete, Newfield will bring 4,000 new homes to Martin County. We’re thrilled to break ground on homes this spring and bring more of the Newfield vision to life.

Stay tuned!
