Trees, Trails, and Teamwork: Mattamy Homes and Citrus Grove Elementary Celebrate Florida Arbor Day at KC Trails

On Friday, Jan. 30, we partnered with Citrus Grove Elementary (CGE) School’s “Club Go Green” for a special tree planting event at KC Trails in celebration of Florida Arbor Day, a holiday near and dear to our community’s nature-loving heart.

According to the Florida Wildlife Federation, Arbor Day was established to celebrate the beauty of trees and their importance to our environment. In Florida, Arbor Day began in 1886, making it one of the first Arbor Day holidays in the nation. Officially, Florida Arbor Day is the third Friday in January, as the state’s cooler months are the best times to plant trees.

As part of our commitment to protecting the environment and fostering community engagement, we gathered with CGE students and parents, as well as Martin County Commissioner, Edward Ciampi, to plant 14 native pine saplings along the newly opened KC Trails South Trailhead.

Prior to the planting, CGE students heard from Commissioner Ciampi and James Fitzgerald, Vice President of Community Development for Mattamy’s Southeast Florida Division, who spoke about Newfield and the importance of environmental conservation. Several students delivered a heartfelt nature poem and created Newfield tree handprint art in the spirit of Arbor Day. We look forward to displaying the piece in Newfield Barn very soon!

The fun, hands-on afternoon served as a wonderful opportunity for our team and Martin County families to make a lasting impact on the local landscape and celebrate Florida’s natural beauty while learning about the importance of trees, environmental responsibility and conservation.

A special thank you to the students for all their hard work!
